FENG SHUI

** Auspicious Paths: Introduction to the Essence of Feng Shui, by Lynne Ashdown. Order by email to Lynne@AuspiciousPaths.com.
This handbook is a clear, concise yet substantive first link to the understanding of Feng Shui for busy people who want to understand Feng Shui principles but don’t want to immerse themselves in the details of the practice. Excellent section on remedies, and applying Feng Shui to decor.

** Feng Shui Made Easy, by William Spear, Harper, San Francisco
Excellent explanation of what a cure is and why it works. Wonderful book. I suggest this for your first book on the subject.

** Feng Shui and your Health - A Guide to High Vitality, by Dr. Jes T. Y. Lim,
Heian International, Inc.
Highly recommended. One of the few Feng Shui books to talk about geopathic stress and effects on health.

** The Principles of Feng Shui, by Master Larry Sang, pub. by the American Feng Shui Instutute, a school for traditional Chinese compass Feng Shui. Highly recommended. Designed to go with his classes, it is a good introduction to the very complex subject of traditional Chinese compass Feng Shui. Can be read alone or in conjunction with the Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced courses offered by the American Feng Shui Institute www.amfengshui.com  The beginning and intermediate courses may be taken on-line.

* The Feng Shui Handbook, A practical guide to Chinese Geomancy and environmental harmony, by Derek Walters, Aquarian Press (Imprint of HarperCollins Publishers)
Clear, concise, and complete, including hard to find advanced instruction in the use of the lo pan.

Feng Shui - Art and Harmony of Place, by Johndennis Govert, Daikakuji Publications
Clear, concise, and artful explanation of Feng shui. Good explanations of different schools of traditional Chinese Feng Shui.

Feng Shui for the Workplace, by Richard Webster, Llewellyn Publications
Clear, brief, and useful. He has many useful and concise books in his series.

* Interior Design with Feng Shui, by Sarah Rossbach, Penguin/Arkana
One of the earliest (modern) books. Seminal. A must for students of Feng Shui. She is the first disciple/writer for Master Lin Yun, who brought BTB Feng Shui to the US, 25 years ago. BTB stands for Black Sect Tantric Buddhism. Not a religion, BTB Feng Shui nevertheless has peripheral ties to Tibetan Buddhism. Master Lin Yun was trained at the monastery of the Blact Hat Sect in Tibet, who were/are the keepers of ancient Feng Shui knowledge. This school of Feng Shui is more transcendental in its approach than the more traditional Chinese schools of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui Design, by Sarah Rossbach and Master Lin Yun,
Beautifully illustrated coffee table book, beautifully written exposition of Master Lin Yun’s BTB school of Feng Shui. Although not a book of great depth, still an excellent representation of this school of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui - Harmony by Design, by Nancy SantoPietro, Perigee Books
Clear, well-written, informative and detailed book, subtitled “How to Create a Beautiful and Harmonious Home.”She is a student and follower of Master Lin Yun, BTB school.

* The Western Guide to Feng Shui, by Terah Kathryn Collins, Hay House, Inc.
Clearly written, with excellent explanation of the five elements, along with a very full list of things that can represent the five elements. I found this useful knowledge; however, classical Chinese Feng Shui differs with this view, stating that only the element itself can be useful to balance or cure an environment. She developed the Western School of Feng Shui, drawing from all disciplines, but not deeply.

* The Modern Book of Feng Shui, by Steven Post, A Byron Press Book (Dell Trade paperback)
“Vitality and harmony for the Home and Office.” The author is one of the three senior students designated by Master Lin Yun to give his teachings. About BTB Feng Shui. An excellent book.

The Feng Shui Kit, by Man-Ho Kwok with Joanne O’Brien, Charles E. Tuttle, Co. Inc.
Very basic but clear instruction on the Chinese (lo pan) compass, including a rudimentary compass.

* The Feng Shui Handbook, by Master Lam Kam Chuen, an Owl Book, Holt & Co.
“How to Create a Healthier Living and Working Environment.” Excellent, especially in depicting how chi energy flows.

** The I Ching, Translation by Richard Wilhelm with forward by C.G. Jung. This is the source book for Feng Shui in the ancient texts of Chinese philosophy. Other translations and many guides exist to assist reading and understanding this text, and you’ll probably need one.

Feng Shui, by Ernest J. Eitel, Synergetic Press, England.
An interesting historical text, possibly the first explanation of Feng Shui by a Westerner.. For Feng Shui history in the West, this is very interesting, and also brief.

The Feng Shui Anthology, by Jami Lin, Earth Design, Inc.
Good sampling of the teaching and thinking of many of the well-known teachers of Feng Shui in the English-speaking world. One article by each author, representing diverse schools of Feng Shui (more representative of what Feng Shui is, than actually teaching Feng Shui)

* Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, by Karen Kingston, Broadway Books
Excellent, clearly written book on space clearing, and other aspects of Feng Shui. Highly recommended.

* Sacred Space, by Denise Linn, Ballantine Books
Detailed explanation of how to clear and protect space. Denise Linn and Karen Kingston (above) are considered to be the foremost authors on the subject of space clearing. Both authors give freely of much sacred information. Both books highly recommended.

* Feng Shui for the Soul, by Denise Linn
Equates Feng Shui with other geomantic systems, esp. to the native American. Good
for an understanding of the overall system of geomancy/divination, of which Feng Shui is a part.

* The Complete Feng Shui Health Handbook, by Wilhelm Gerstung and Jens Mehlhase, Lotus Press, Shangri-La
“How you can protect yourself against harmful energies and create positive forces for health and prosperity.” Recommended only for those with at least intermediate knowledge of Feng shui. Advanced, technical, and specifically for those who use dowsing in their practice. Translation from German.

Feng Shui Revealed, by R. D. Chin, Clarkson, Potter
Beautiful coffee table book. Beautifully photographed to show good and bad Feng shui situations, which are explained in detail as to problems and cures. Black Sect (BTB) school, with heavy emphasis on cultural Chinese, symbolic, and transcendental cures.

Feng Shui Astrology, by Jon Sandifer, Ballantine Books
Clear guide to 9 Star Ki and Feng Shui-related astrology

Feng Shui Step by Step, by T. Raphael Simons, Three Rivers Press
Well-written general guide, with information on using color, With good diagrams.

Feng Shui, Strategies for Business Success, by T. Raphael Simons, Three River Press.
Good presentation pertaining to business settings.

* The Encyclopedia of Feng Shui, by Lillian Too, pub. By Element.
If you wanted to learn about all aspects of Feng Shui, this would be a good book to read. Beautiful coffee table book, beautifully illustrated, beautiful in substance as well as form.

Feng Shui Formulas for Success, by Lillian Too, Element
Good if too brief guide to Classical Feng Shui, including Flying Stars (I recommend not tackling Flying Stars if you are a beginner).

**A Master Course in Feng-Shui, by Eva Wong, Shambala
An in-depth tutorial, clear and thorough in text and illustration. Highly recommended for the serious student. However, she appears to be the only one who teaches that in Yang house Feng Shui (the study of houses for the living, as opposed to Yin house Feng Shui, the study of houses/graves for the dead) the dragon is on the left when you are standing outside facing the house. Most other teachers/masters teach that the dragon is on the left when you are standing inside the facing/front door facing out. She presents other divergent views as well. Still, this is one of the best in-depth Feng Shui teaching guides.

** Feng Shui, by Eva Wong, Shambala. Unusually good background of Feng Shui, and in-depth instruction on the practice of Feng Shui. Highly recommended.

** “Flying Star” Made Easy, by David Twicken, Ph.D., L.Ac., pub. by Writers Club Press. For serious students. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen of traditional, compass Feng Shui Flying Stars.
Also by the same author, **Classical Five Element Chinese Astrology Made Easy.

** Treasures of Tao, by David Twicken, Ph D.,LAc, Explains, teaches, and links Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology, and Spiritual Qi Gong. Excellent and unusual book

** The Authentic I Ching, by Dr. Wang Yang & Jon Sandifer, Watkins Publishing, London
This is the ideal way to tackle the I Ching. As clear, concise, and easy to understand as you can make the I Ching, by two of the world’s foremost scholars on the subject. They are the first to bring all three methods of prediction to the West. Highly recommended.

Feng Shui for Business & Office, by Dr. Jes T.Y. Lim, Warwick Publishing.
Excellent, gives information not usually found in business Feng Shui books. Recommended.

The Feng Shui House Book, by Gina Lazenby, Watson-Guptill Publications, New York
Beautiful enough for a coffee table book, but extremely substantive. Teaches the essence of Feng Shui with gorgeous photos; the knowledgeable text. Could stand alone as a book.

* The Art and Science of Feng Shui, by Henry B. Lin, Llewellyn Publications, St. Paul, Minn.
Very deep knowledge of the principles that underlie Feng Shui, especially form school. Highly recommended.

Feng Shui for Life, by Jon Sandifer, Destiny Books
Relates Feng Shui to astrology, 9 Star Ki, directionology, 5 element theory, strengthening the elements, and how all this relates to your health and well-being in your home.

The Idiot’s Guide to Feng Shui, second edition, by Elizabeth Moran, master Joseph Yu, and Val Biktashev, pub. By Alpha
As much as the title gags me, this is a very comprehensive book on Feng Shui. The first edition has mistakes; be sure to get the second edition.
FENG SHUI FOR THE GARDEN

Spiritual Gardening by Peg Streep
Not just a Feng Shui book, it is subtitled, “Creating Sacred Space Outdoors.” Beautiful, well-written coffee table quality book.

The Complete Guide to Dowsing, by George Applegate. Element Pub. “The definitive Guide to Finding Underground Water.” And so it is. In-depth and technical, but about dowsing in general, not only dowsing for water. For the very serious dowsing student.

Spiritual cleansing, A Handbook of Phychic Protection, by Draja Mickaharic, pub. by Samuel Weiser, Inc. A rare book about protecting yourself when working in spiritual fields.
